Sermon: Light in the Lamp Stands October 16,2016
Scripture: Matthew 5:14-16
Rev. Philip Baby, Vicar of Mar Thoma Syrian Church and some of their congregation participated in Church of the Saviour service Sunday. Mar Thoma shares the church building on Rucker Road and holds services on Sunday afternoons.
Mar Thoma sees its mission as being Lighted to Lighten and the church is to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ thus they can lighten others. Rev. Baby says the church is called to be the light and we who believe in Christ need to dispel the darkness we find all around us. We can be a light of purity, a light of unity and a light of duty and we are called upon to reflect the light of God through varied activities which empower and enlighten the poor, the needy and the oppressed.
Sharing together and being present at the same time in the church building that is home to both churches, we could see and hear that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. There may be differences in thought and approach, appearance and process but we are alike in our love of the Lord and in doing God’s work.
Rev. Baby’s message was clear-”We are all called to serve God and be torchbearers and provide light to others in our day-to-day life.”
